Why We Find It Difficult to Sleep Most Times

Susie is a mother of 3 whose day begins by 5am. Her daily activities include taking care of her kids, cooking the family meals, shopping for the household, washing the dishes, and keeping the house clean. She does all these chores by herself with little or no help from her spouse. When it’s nighttime, she’s already tired and eager to get some sleep. But surprisingly for her, sleep does not come easily in the comfort of her bed. So, all she does is stare at the ceiling all night long.

Similarly, if you are fond of taking naps during the day, you might be contributing to your sleepless nights. In conclusion, if you keep to a regular bed time schedule, you will definitely improve the quality of your sleep.
  • Poor eating habits: Your eating habits can make it difficult for you to get a good night’s rest. Eating heavily at dinner can have an adverse influence on your sleep. Furthermore, taking heavy or spicy meals just before bedtime makes it impossible for your body to relax and can cause heartburns during the night. Examples of heavy meals include foods rich in fat, carbohydrate, sugar, and cheese. As a rule, light meals, such as salads, vegetables, and soups, are the only foods recommended for dinner. As you must have noticed, not paying attention to your eating habits can leave you struggling to get a good night’s rest.
  • Excessive caffeine intake: Caffeine can cause harm to your sleep patterns. Drinking it excessively can keep you alert and active during the day and through the night. In fact, caffeine cannot be easily removed from the body; it can stay in the bloodstream for a long time. Hence, it is advisable to cut down on excess coffee, tea, energy drink or, chocolate intake in order not to be deprived of sleep.

Failure to have a good night rest can lower your quality of life and also lead to serious medical complications in the future.
