Finally, it has happened. One of the many aspirations you have thought about right from your childhood has manifested. You are pregnant with a child of your own. You will finally enjoy the joys of pregnancy you have read so much about. However, this blessing comes with some disadvantages. Whether you are in your first, second, or third trimester, there is a chance you will experience sleep troubles. You might sleep for about five or sleep hours a night, which isn’t ideal. You need to sleep for more hours than that for your health and your baby’s health. That said, here are some tips you can follow on getting enough sleep when pregnant:
- Don’t nap: Whether you are pregnant or not, doctors will always say you should avoid napping during the day. Napping will refresh you during the day and make you more energetic. But, it will also reduce the hours you ought to sleep at night. Thus, if you nap for about an hour or two during the day, you might not be able to sleep for more than five or six hours in the night.
- Don’t neglect your pillows: As a pregnant lady, one of the most important things you need to have in your bedroom are pillows. The position you lie when you want to sleep does not matter. There is still a chance your body will ache which will disturb your sleep cycle. To avoid this uncomfortable scenario, buy full-length pillows you can use to support yourself. You can also try smaller pillows to support your arms, legs, neck, and so on.
- Don’t stress yourself: Anxiety can be a terrible sleep disturbance when pregnant. However, many pregnant women worry a lot about the baby, financial capability, and much more. The truth is you are causing more harm than good. You need to learn not to worry so much. The baby is fine. There is nothing wrong with him or her. Yes, you will be a great mother. Do you feel more reassured? Tell yourself all these when you start to feel stressed. Don’t forget that less stress equals longer sleep hours.
- Don’t take too much liquid before bedtime: Waking up to use the toilet consistently is why many people lose sleep. The womb that houses the baby is very close to the bladder. Hence, the baby puts pressure on the bladder which leads to frequent toilet usage. We cannot tell you to stop taking liquids because of this scenario. Pregnant women need to stay hydrated as much as possible. You should take as much liquid as you can during the day. Carry a bottle with you and sip from it throughout the day. At least two hours before bed, avoid taking liquid. Fewer toilet visits in the night will help you get enough sleep.
Pregnancy is one of the greatest things a woman can experience. However, it comes with many discomforts. One of it is not getting enough sleep. With the tips we have stated above, we guarantee that you will sleep better. Just try them out for yourself and see the awesome results you will experience.
